Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said Friday’s ‘An Aoine Dhearg’ protest at Stormont is an opportunity to voice support for Irish language rights.
The protest – organised by Dream Dearg – will take place on Friday 31 May, 12pm at Stormont.
Raymond McCartney said:
“There is a clear and growing demand across society for an Irish Language Act and an end to the denial of rights to large sections of society.
“The Irish language is an integral part of the lives of a growing number of people who use it daily and their rights should be protected.
“Language protections exist in England, Scotland, Wales and in the rest of Ireland, they now need to be extended to the north.
“As the new talks process continues, it’s vital that all parties and both governments hear a clear message that people here are opposed to the ongoing denial of rights.
“I would urge people to back this protest, wear red and make your voice heard in support of an Irish Language Act and rights for all citizens.”
