Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has announced that the party’s Vice President Mary Lou McDonald is to be the guest of honour at the annual Derry Volunteers’ Dinner Dance in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel.
This years annual dinner will be the last major event of the Centenary year of 1916 -2016.
Raymond McCartney said “This will be the last major event of the Centenary year and will be a fitting tribute to our fallen comrades. It has been a very busy year with events large and small taking place across the city to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916.
On Easter Sunday, just past, tens of thousands of people came onto the streets of Derry and took part in a parade to commemorate the sacrifice of those who took on the British Empire in 1916.
Derry marked the Easter Rising in a fitting way. On the 12th November the Derry Volunteers’ Dinner Dance will link the sacrifice of 1916 to the sacrifice of our fallen Volunteers in the most recent phase of our struggle.
I am pleased to announce that the guest of honour at this year’s dinner will be Vice President Mary Lou MacDonald.
Tickets can be purchased from local the Cumann chairpersons, or Sinn Féins offices in the city priced at £30 each.
