Cllr. McGinley said: “In recent days the Fire Service has been called out to free young children who have become trapped in the grills which protect the storm drain adjacent to Ringfort Road.
The Rivers Agency has carried out a significant amount of work to upgrade this culvert in response to flooding in the area and this has been viewed as a welcome development.
Unfortunately some young children who have been playing at the stream have become trapped in the grills covering the drain and this has led to the Fire Service having to visit the scene and free the children.
I would call on parents to ensure that children are discouraged from playing at the culvert and to avoid the distress which the youngsters experience when they find themselves trapped. This would also ensure that the Fire Service’s resources do not become tied up responding to these situations.”
