Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed Minister Stephen Farry’s rethink on rejection for ESF funding to some groups whose applications were deemed not have included management accounts while others in the same position were given the opportunity to resubmit the additional information.
“I made a call last week for the Minister to reopen the process for the European Social Fund (ESF) following representation from groups who felt that their applications had been treated less fairly than others who had submitted similar information.
Mr McCartney explained:
“While some community groups had their applications rejected because they had not included Management Accounts others were allowed to resubmit the additional information.
“Clearly this was a flaw in the processing system that required redress. I am pleased that this issue has now been rectified and the affected groups will now be able to submit the required Management Accounts and have their applications reassessed.
“Had this issue not been properly remedied it could result in not only significant job losses in the community and voluntary sector but loss of all the experience built up over many years of dealing with the marginalised and disadvantaged in our communities.
“I therefore welcome the decision to accept the additional information so that a proper, fully informed assessment of all applications can be made on a fair and equal basis.”
