Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has described Youth 19 as a significant step towards Council achieving UNICEF Child Friendly Community status.
Cllr. McGinley said: “Youth 19 will take place within the Council area next year and is dedicated to young people aged 12-24 by prioritising their voices, needs, priorities and rights.
“Young people are requesting that Council support a series of projects and events which will promote positive health and wellbeing, encourage meaningful engagement and participation and will assist in developing skills and creating clear career pathways.
“Is is the intention to fully launch the Youth 19 campaign in the near future and next year’s programme will complement and enhance Council’s bid to attain UNICEF Child Friendly Community status.
“As a Council UNICEF Champion I have a responsibility to ensure that the necessary level of resource is made available towards attaining this accolade and I fully welcome the work which has already taken place as we prepare for Youth 19.”
